Starting 2015 Off Right on the Feast of the Epiphany

January 6th is traditionally the Feast of the Epiphany. The "new" Church calendar celebrates the Epiphany on a Sunday (this past), but I like to keep the feast day as it was originally "designed."

The Wise Men who visited the Holy Family some time after Our Lord's birth in Bethlehem may not have known exactly Who this Baby really was when they presented their gifts, but they along with the rest of the world would soon perk up from the centuries of dark slumber that gripped mankind after our first parent's Original Sin.

In this spirit, we find ourselves perking up again after Christmas break. We who took some time off between Christmas and New Year's Day now drift back to our jobs and pick up the action that either ceased or at least slowed down when Christmas Day arrived. If like me you're struggling to get back into the swing of things, read carefully these words Psalm 146. It should perfectly start this New Year of Our Lord 2015 on the right foot.

Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord , O my soul!
I will praise the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praises to my God while I have being.

Put not your trust in princes,
in a son of man, in whom there is no help.
When his breath departs he returns to his earth;
and on that very day his plans perish.

Happy is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the Lord his God,
who made heaven and earth,
the sea, and all this is in them;
who keeps faith for ever;
who executes justice for the oppressed;
who gives food to the hungry.

The Lord sets the prisoners free;
the Lord opens the eyes of the blind.
The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;
the Lord loves the righteous.
The Lord watches over the sojourners,
he upholds the widow and the fatherless;
but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.

The Lord will reign for ever,
thy God, O Zion, to all generations.
Praise the Lord!

Happy Feast of the Epiphany!
