Back to Work on the Tenth Day of Christmas

Well, it's time to get back to work. Family members who visited are back home and, I'm guessing, into their regular routines. Maybe the feasting is tapering off. But it's not exactly "routine," right? It's the Tenth Day of Christmas, after all.

Of course, it's not like I'm not working a regular day. I am. But it is the Tenth Day of Christmas after all. And we Catholics can't just make turn our backs on this most wonderful time of the the year.

That's right, the "most wonderful time of the year" hasn't gone away. I realize the rest of the world thinks it has. In fact, the rest of the world left Christmas behind just about midnight on December 25th. But not us.

So as we get back to work, back into the swing of things, we still have somewhere either in the back, or, ideally, in the front of our minds, the "Word made Flesh" and all He has done and continues to do for us. We're working, but we continue to observe these days of the Christmas Season in a special way.

So keep working, but don't forget that Our Blessed Lord condescended to live among us, to show us how to live, ultimately to save us from our sins. Jesus, Son of God, was born in the most humble circumstances, God Himself, born in a manger. We work and remember. We work and pause to think about this most profound reality that has changed not only our own personal lives, but all of human history.

Work and remember.

Happy Tenth Day of Christmas!
