St Joseph the Worker
Something simple today: It's the feast of St Joseph the Worker.
March 19th is the solemn feast of St. Joseph. Today is different. Holy Mother Church created this special feast day because socialists and communists co-opted the day for their propaganda purposes.
In ancient times, May Day was a time of special celebration marking spring. Most recently, the day was co-opted to "remember struggles of workers who were killed or oppressed in their fight for better wages and working conditions. That's what Widipedia says. And while I'm against oppressing anyone, and believe that good wages and working conditions are certainly a responsibility of an employer towards his employees, make no mistake about it, this day was and is used by socialists and communists to push their agenda.
In fact, during Eisenhower's administration (1953 - 1961), a time of resistance to communist propaganda, the government declared the day "Law Day." This was supposedly a time to observe the importance of law in our lives. Perhaps a worthy idea, but, really, did you even know this was Law Day. No one observes this.
So the Church had the better idea, I'd say. St Joseph, the example of a worker to us Catholic men, is honored on this day. It is his example we look to when we work, not a bunch of communists, socialists, or even government bureaucrats.
Holy Mother Church, in her wisdom, gets it right again!
Happy St Joseph the Worker Day!!!
