Start The New Year With God On The Job

The New Year continues. Are you getting that fresh start you wanted? C'mon, don't give up. Bring God to work.

Sure, a few days back at the old grind can make things seem "usual" again. But they're not, as we discussed last time. We don't call it the New Year for nothing.

Every day, we Catholic men work conscious of the Presence of God. That's what we strive for every day - to have God on the job with us. It can seem like a struggle sometimes, as we become consumed with the demands of our work. So try easing up a bit to start this New Year, OK? Let's start with this: He knows us already - everything about us.

Now, just think about that for a moment. He knows you want to bring Him with you to work. He knows you want to acknowledge His presence. He knows you can feel disappointed when the day shoots by and you haven't even given Him a thought, never mind not getting to daily Mass or saying your rosary.

As long as your intentions were good, He knows you meant well.

Now, of course, good intentions are never enough. You've got to be a man of your word. You've got to do the things you said you were going to do.

But there's no reason to become discouraged at this. He will help you live up to your word. The key is not to rely on yourself. The key is simply to let your heavenly Father know that you really rely on Him, that you need His help. Good Father that He is, He'll be happy to hear it. He wants to help.

The thing is He's not going to force Himself on you - but you knew that, right? So what's holding you back from totally - and I mean totally - relying on Him? It's a New Year and that's something any of us can do - maybe even "resolve" - this year. Let's rely, finally, once and for all, on God in absolutely everything we think and say and do this year. Let's make 2010 the year we see ourselves as serving Him, and Him alone.

Let the fresh energy of this new year drive you. Think about the fiery furnace of love that is the Sacred Heart of Jesus and see your own heart on fire with love of Him. This fresh new year is just the right time to fill your heart and mind with such thoughts and desires. Now, while it's on your mind, while you're starting anew, let Him in. Rely on Him in everything.

At the very first bump in the road - and there will be many bumps this year - just go right to Him and say you need His help.

He's here, right now, on the job. He'll come with you to work. He's ready, willing and able to help. Just ask. He won't fail you.
