Mary can't be far from our thoughts at work

May is Mary's month. October is dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary.

Now it's November. But it doesn't mean we forget about Mary. So how did we remember Our Blessed Mother in a special way during our work day?

Father Edward Leen calls Mary the Mother of Hope. He also accurately points out that even if you practice your faith, and aspire to be more holy, you typically concentrate on Faith and Charity, rarely on hope. He discusses the role that hope can play in our daily work, in helping us draw closer to God.

We may ask ourselves how many people, in the ordinary activities of daily life, press on in the hope of coming thereby to God. We hope to reach him in prayer, but do we seek to find Him in our ordinary daily duties – in teaching a class, in sweeping a room, in working at the sewing machine? In these activities, do we act in the way of Hope? Do we realize that in these things we can tend continually towards God, so that there need be no moment of life, no activity, no duty, in which we are not tending towards Him. We act in Faith. We act in Charity. Why do we not act in Hope?”

That greatest of all goals, getting closer to God can be a challenge - greater than all those challenges we face at work. Father Leen suggests letting Hope sustains us. We have no reason, no excuse for despair.

Imagine the power of Hope brought to our work both to accomplish our most difficult goals and to grow closer to God. And we've got all the help we need to sustain our Hope: a loving Mother.

So it's only natural to turn to Mary throughout our busy work day, isn't it, especially by praying the rosary? Isn't it wonderful to have a caring, loving Mother ready to help us? And that's on top of having a loving Father!

Okay, so it can be challenging finding the time to say the rosary every day. But give it a shot guys. We need all the help we can get.

Being Catholic means living up to the highest standards. It means no slacking, goofing off, cutting corners, or any of the other words and actions that sometimes riddle business and professional interactions. That's why we need that help to stay on the straight and narrow.

Men, we work for the greater glory of God, right? So our every thought, word and action needs to be worthy of this great work we do every day. And rather than seeing this as a daunting task - something beyond us - keep Mary in your thoughts. Between the virtue of Hope and help of Mary, we're unbeatable.

It may not be May or October. It doesn't matter. Mary, like our own earthly mothers, will be there listening to us and showering us with her love. We've just got to keep her in our thoughts. The rosary is a sure way to be certain that happens.
