Where did the Sacred Heart go?

June slipped by many of us without remembering that the Church designates June as the month of the Sacred Heart. I know in our parish - a pretty decent one - I don't ever recall any priest mentioning this devotion during June. It's a devotion that's kind of slipped through the cracks (along with much else) after Vatican II.

You can still see statues and pictures of the Sacred Heart in some churches. It's the image of Jesus where you see His heart.

Imagine having a picture of the Sacred Heart in your office or cubicle? I'm not suggesting you put one up, but just think about it. It's the sort of image where non-Catholics would do a double-take - especially these days where even Catholics don't pay too much attention to the Sacred Heart.

While the office isn't really the place for it, home is. An image of the Sacred Heart in a prominent place along with a specific dedication of our family life to His Sacred Heart used to be more common in a Catholic home. Maybe it's time to make it more common again.

Picture the image of Jesus, His Sacred Heart exposed, watching over your family. You leave in the morning, but He stays. Your home is in His hands. Sound appealing?

He'll like it too. He'll appreciate your love, honor and trust.

You can pray a special prayer with your family and dedicate the family to the Sacred Heart. You can find ideas using Google. If you haven't done this yet, consider it. Even if the kids are older, it's never too late. (In fact, Jesus' Sacred Heart, in a place of honor in the home, keeping an eye on things definitely can't hurt when they're older.)
