The Bottom Line in a Tough Economy

In a recession, business slows down. People lose their jobs. In this one, people are even losing their homes. Many have lost a lot of the investments they were counting on for their retirement. It's not easy.

If there's any good side to this, it might simply be this: we can learn to accept God's will.

It's right there in the "Our Father": "thy kingdom come, thy will by done, on earth as it is in Heaven." Remember?

But how could a recession be His will. Well, everything is. Everything.

OK. But how do I "accept" that? Do I stand around and just let stuff happen? If it's all His will, then what I do doesn't mean much, right?

No. And there's part of the "mystery" of our faith. We go about our business as best we can. What results is His will. Even when the result isn't all that great.

I know. It's not easy to understand. But, again, pray the Our Father and you'll find it right in there. And, of course, that's the one prayer Jesus Himself taught us. So we absolutely know it's true.

So, recession or no recession, bad times and good, whether we feel down or sky high, His will be done. It's the way of the Catholic man at work, at home...the fundamenta, essential part of living in this world.
