How to Solve Problems With Jesus

We've all faced problems at work that need to be solved. So much of the work day is problem-solving. Yet some problems seem to elude any solution. They're maddening.

One example is the fellow worker who complains all the time, who is always negative. He or she serves to drain the energy out of us and everyone on our team. It's especially tough when you're a leader. Try as you may, they just don't respond positively to anything.

That's when it's time to remember Mark 2: 1-5. You remember them, don't you? It's about the guys who carried the paralyzed man to a house where Jesus was preaching and healing. They couldn't get in, so they went up to the roof and removed some of it so that they could lower the paralyzed man down to where Jesus sat. Talk about creative solutions!

In his wonderful book "The Path to See Like Jesus," Father Dempsey Acosta discusses this incident. Those men solved a seemingly impossible challenge with their faith. Jesus saw their faith. He then heals the paralytic.

No problem should ever grind us down; we should never despair...at least not if we have real faith. The solution to that tough problem is out there. Why not let Jesus help you solve it? Think of those 4 guys lowering their paralyzed friend down through the roof. Their faith helped them solve their problem.

Ask, then listen. If it's a really tough problem and you can spend some quiet moments in church praying before the Blessed Sacrament, go do it. But you can do it right at your desk too.
