The First Day of the Week

This week Monday brings a new month - June, the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus - along with a new work week.

Of course, Monday doesn't really start a new week. The first day of the week is Sunday, the Lord's Day.

But we men spend a lot of our time either working, thinking about work, talking about our work. There's not much left for the rest of life: God, family, friends, recreation, etc. That's why God gave us Sunday, and why it's called a "day of rest." It's not for work. It's where you, at the very least, spend extra time with God and family.

Monday simply begins this week's work. By then, you've got a good, full day under your belt - a good day of rest and recreation.

If you must attend to work matters on part of Sunday, keep it at a minimum. Besides, Mass and time with family, look for time to read a good book, listen to good music. There's just so much more to life than your work. And God gives us the time to enjoy it.

Don't wrap yourself in work and forget the rest of your life. Take advantage of the Lord's Day. Start your Monday with the stability and perspective of a well-rounded Catholic man at work.

Instead of using Sunday to plan your week, why not spend some time during the week planning your Sunday.
