Who's the author of your "drama" today?

There are days at work which start great and end in disaster; and vice-versa. Oh, for a steady stream of productive and peaceful days! Why all the drama?

Usually, we're the author of our own daily dramas. We put ourselves at center stage. When things go wrong, we're the victim. When they go right, we're the hero. But that's not reality. That's just the drama we create.

When we can live each day, one at a time, and keep God close, we can face anything. The drama recedes. We can take each challenge in its turn. The key is to stop thinking about everything we've got to do and just focus on the task at hand. As for success or failure, it's really in God's hands.

Take a look at Psalm 13. It captures those times when we're emotionally jostled. In just a few lines, David goes from anxiety and pleading to a peaceful, confident trust in God. It's a good example to us of how to grapple with the emotionally charged times in our lives. Just remember that God is always "for" us.

He's the author, not us. He creates. Let Him do His creative work. Don't try to take His job. Play your part. Focus on the task at hand. Is it finishing that difficult project? Is it dealing with a troublesome co-worker who gets under your skin, or even tries to undermine your work?

Tough as these things can be, face them. What do you need to do right now? Now, do it. Keep your mind on that task that needs to get done; trust your results to God; watch the drama recede.
