What happens when a crisis breaks out at work?

You're "up against it." The deadline's here but the project isn't ready. Or maybe it's that employee who's always complaining. Now he's confronting you in front of the whole team.

How do you respond? Take action? Take charge?

Step up to the plate by all means; do your part. But where is God in this crisis? What, no time for Him? Got to deal with the crisis first?

Wrong! Don't walk alone. There's no reason for it. He wants to help. Why wouldn't you accept such help?

Just remember He won't force His way in. That's not His way, even in a crisis.

It takes a second to ask for help. Just say "Please help." Maybe even: "Help!" Whatever. It doesn't have to be long and complicated. He already knows you need His help. He just wants to know you want His help.

And if things are really going bad - if this crisis is part of a downward spiral in your work life, read Psalm 22. Our Lord cries out: "My God, my God why hast thou forsaken me." But don't stop there. Read the whole Psalm. In the midst of His dying, in His darkest moment, Jesus turns to His Father. Read the words carefully and think of Good Friday. Think of Our Lord on His Cross.

He allowed Himself to go through this valley of death with all its terror and feeling of abandonment so that you would know that He knows just how you feel. And so that you would know that He will never abandon you - even if everyone else does.

Whatever your crisis, it won't be anything like Our Lord's Passion. Even if things are really bad - if this crisis seems like it's coming to bad end, remember Our Lord. Ask for His help. He's been there. Let Him know you know. That crisis won't seem quite as tough.
